Note on Publishers

If you plan on making your own website to review books or would like to guest post here, it’s important to remember that some publishers have strict rules on how you use their material. (i.e. Kodansha) Be sure to check out each publisher’s website to make sure any images or quotes you are using from the book can be used freely. Violators do get sued, so be careful.

If you can read Japanese, DOSHINSHA wrote a great explanation of the extent to which you can quote from a book without violating copyright laws on their website. Click on: 文章の一部を引用したい。 You can also check out the original laws for copyrights at e-Gov.

Many publisher’s here do not have an English version of the website, so if your Japanese isn’t the greatest, you’ll have to enlist the help of a friend. I cannot write emails for you. I tried emailing one publisher in English and didn’t get a response. It’s best to have a strong knowledge of Japanese if you’re going to be communicating with many publishers here.

Also, please never forget that almost all publishers here are secular. As such, you should always use discernment when choosing books for your family. Often times a series will have great themes and concept, but then they slip in the occult. It’s not easy sorting through everything, so may God be with us all!

I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. (John 17:14-15, KJV)
